Payment bank cards of Belarus and Russia disabled in Ukraine

Earlier, the accounts of Belarusian and Russian citizens in Ukrainian banks were blocked – now Belarusians and Russians will not be able to use their Belarusian and Russian cards in Ukraine either.

On March 1, the National Bank of Ukraine banned crediting individuals’ accounts using payment cards issued in Belarus and Russia, the acceptance of payment cards of these banks in Ukraine, including cash withdrawals and card settlements.

“Financial support for armed aggression against Ukraine must be stopped,” said Oleksiy Shaban, deputy head of the National Bank of Ukraine. “The cards of the banks of the aggressor states will not work in Ukraine, and the enemy will no longer be able to send funds to them for terrorists and their supporters. The ban on accepting cards from Russian and Belarusian banks is our next step in the financial protection of Ukraine”.

Moreover, the National Bank of Ukraine appealed to the payment systems Mastercard and Visa to stop servicing cards of Russian banks.

The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Economic Development has called for the nationalization of all property, facilities, funds, and deposits of the aggressor on the territory of Ukraine (it is not clear whether the word “aggressor” covers Belarus as well).
