Zelensky’s associate: Laws not to help regain Donbas, Crimea

Laws and decrees will not solve the issue of Donbas and Crimea, Dmytro Razumkov, Head of the pro-Zelensky Servant of the People party, said in an interview with the Russian media outlet kommersant.ru.

“All of us want peace, want Donbas and Crimea to be back to Ukraine. Unfortunately, this cannot be sorted out by laws,” Razumkov stressed.

“It is rather the questions of diplomacy, sanction pressure, domestic policy issues related to the fight against corruption, information policy, economy, infrastructure, social policy. There is a number of challenges to be tackled, which will allow us to regain temporarily occupied territories in less time,” the politician said.

Asked about the possibility of granting a special status to Donbas, Razumkov admitted that this issue might be resolved in terms of legislation. At the same time, one is not able to fix the problem of war only by decrees, he believes.

“It is a matter of will. The Ukrainian side has it. Unfortunately, not all the participants are expressive of it,Zelensky’s associate concluded.

In June, Leonid Kuchma, Ukraine’s representative in the Trilateral Contact Group (TCG) on the peaceful settlement of the situation in Donbas, said that Ukraine might stop the blockade of separatist-controlled areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, but only after the return of Ukrainian assets seized by Russia in the east of the country.
