Yury Hubarevich gets 15 days in prison for 'non-parasite' campaign

According to Maladzechna judge Alyaksei Irshyn, Hubarevich was charged under Article 23.34 part 3 (organization of or participation in unauthorized mass events committed repeatedly).

Authorities claimed that the leader of the Rukh participated in the unauthorized event, and “shouted slogans” “For the abolition of the Decree № 3 of the President “On prevention of social dependency”.

Hubarevich pleaded not guilty, but agreed that he had been in the Square and took part in the protest.

“The decision to arrest me is an attempt of insulation, especially on the eve of the rallies of March 15th and 25th,” said Hubarevich.

Chairman of the Rukh considers the decision of authorities to detain political leaders a mistake, as it leaves the protest without leaders and makes it absolutely unpredictable.

“The main motive of the people who are taking to the streets is to express displeasure with the authorities, no matter how. People are so fed up, that they do not want to keep it to themselves and are ready to take to the streets,” added Hubarevich.

UCP activist Dzyanis Krasachka, who was arrested on March 11th, was fined 50 basic units, Alyaksandr Panamarou, a resident of Maladzechna, was arrested for 10 days, and Volha Kavalkova – for 7 days.

Leader of the United Civil Party Anatol Lyabedzka and co-chairman of the Belarusian Christian Democracy Vital Rymasheuski were sentenced to 15 days in prison.
