Tsikhanouskaya's picket in Minsk under threat as authorities plan concert in park


The authorities are going to hold a festive event dedicated to the Railway Troops Day in the evening of August 6 in Minsk’s People’s Friendship Park. Earlier on, Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya had planned her campaign meeting in the park.

The website of Savetski district administration reports that concerts and festive events will be held daily in the Peoples’ Friendship Park on August 3-8. On August 3, 4, 5 and 8 concerts of the musical project “Classics without Borders” will be held there. On August 6, from 17:00 to 21:30, there will be a festive event dedicated to Railway Troops Day, and on August 7 — to Builder’s Day.

On July 30, presidential candidate Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya will hold a campaign meeting on Bangalore Square. According to the estimates of observers of the human rights center Viasna, from 17:30 to 20:30 the rally was attended by at least 63 thousand people.

At the end of last week, Tsikhanouskaya’s headquarters announced that a new rally would be held on August 6 in the capital’s Peoples’ Friendship Park. The rally is to begin at 17:00. It is planned that Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya, Veranika Tsapkala and Maryia Kalesnikava will be supported by well-known bands, including VOLSKI, J:MORS, NIZKIZ, TOR BAND, KRAMA. Katsya Pytleva, Vital Vodneu and Anton Martynenka will MC the picket.
