Russia to announce compensation figure for oil contamination in a month

The overall assessment of damage from oil pollution in the Druzhba pipeline will take about a month, said Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak, interfax reports.

“I think it will be within a month,” said Alexander Novak, answering the question when the final assessment will be ready.

Earlier, Minsk announced its intention to charge the Russian Federation for the supply of poor-quality oil, a forced termination of the export of petroleum products, damage to refinery equipment and pipelines.

Alyaksandr Lukashenka estimated the damage to the Belarusian side from the supply of dirty oil from the Russian Federation in “hundreds of millions of dollars”. In turn, the oil refinery Naftan announced the start of claims activities against Russian oil suppliers.

According to Russian media, Alexander Novak believes that the total damage from oil pollution in the Druzhba pipeline system may even be less than $ 100 million.
