During the renovation of the “Dynama” Minsk stadium there was information about various cost of works. There were rumors about figures from 130 to 200 million dollars. Tut.by journalists learned how much money was actually spent on the facility.
According to the investment program of Minsk for 2019, the estimated cost is almost 320.2 million BYN (about $ 148.4 million at the current rate). As of January 1, 2019 316.2 million BYN (almost $ 146.6 million) were invested in the project. The remaining sum of almost 4 million rubles may still be spent.
Thus, “Dynama” turned out to be twice as expensive as the Alliance stadium in Vienna, which can sit six thousand spectators more (cost $ 60 million).
Experts explain that several reasons contributed to the overpriced renovation of the Minsk stadium. Firstly, they decided to build the arena while preserving the original wall, which significantly complicated the work. Secondly, the cost was inflated by the desire of officials to perform work exclusively by Belarusian companies. As a result, the cheaper offers of German and Hungarian companies were rejected in favor of Minskproject.
The economic observer of Belsat notes the money siphoning during construction: for example, the flagpoles for the stadium were purchased at $ 20,000 per piece, which is at least four times more expensive than the world price.
The renovation of the “Dynama” stadium began in 2012 and ended in 2018. During this time, the project had a number of changes and eventually became the main athletics arena of the country with the ability to conduct serious football matches, because it has the fourth UEFA category.
Almost all the works on the reconstruction of the stadium were financed by the Minsk budget. In June 2019, “Dynama” will become the main venue for the European Games.
