After a siege of ilness, Andrzej Wajda died on Sunday evening, his colleague Jacek Bromski said.

“A few days ago Andrzej Wajda was taken to hospital. There was hope that he would recover,” Bromski told TVN24.
Wajda was a recipient of a Honorary Oscar and the Palme d’Or. He was known especially for a trilogy of war films such as A Generation, Kanał and Ashes and Diamonds. Four of his films have been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film: The Promised Land, The Maids of Wilko, Man of Iron, and Katyń.
Several months ago, the prominent film director finalized his last movie.
