Moscow protest participant detained in Minsk


As reported by the human rights project “OVD-Info” with reference to the detainee’s grandmother.Nikita Chirtsov was detained in Minsk on July 27.

Police told the detainee that he was on a wanted list for taking part in the protest rally on July 27. According to “OVD-Info,” Chirtsov participated in the rally and was brought to administrative responsibility. Now the detainee is in one of the Minsk police departments.

There is no official confirmation of Chirtsov’s detention yet.

On July 27th , protests in support of independent candidates in the Moscow City Duma elections were held in Moscow. According to the “Department of Internal Affairs Info,” 1,373 people were detained at the protests. Three days after the rally, the Investigative Committee of Russia initiated a criminal case over mass riots and the use of violence against the authorities. The case involves 13 defendants.
