Lukashenka anxious about COVID-19 aftermath

The meeting high level on priority measures to ensure the sustainable operation of the economy and social sphere in the global epidemiological situation was mainly focused on economic indicators. As for the situation with the coronavirus and the spread of infection, Alyaksandr Lukashenka spoke about the WHO proposals, reports the press service of the President.

At the meeting on priority measures to ensure the sustainable operation of the economy and social sphere in the global epidemic, President Alyaksandr Lukashenka said that he expects the government to meet the basic indicators of economic development.

“According to reports, GDP fell by 0.3% in the first quarter. There can’t and won’t be any approval of the GDP decline, so focus on the implementation of the plans that we have before us. We have a small economy, which does not have a raw material safety net, it had to accomodate three blows simultaneously,” said Lukashenka.

According to Lukashenka, these blows are oil restrictions from Russia, closing the borders and fighting the epidemic of COVID-19.

“Life has shown after a month and a half that we were right. Now everyone’s talking more about the economy, about how we’re going to live our lives. That 350 million people will go hungry in the world. Or there will be more. And a month and a half ago I asked a question (and only the lazy one did not wipe his legs over me): the pandemic will pass, what will we eat? Today no one criticizes for it. Everyone is arguing that we must restore the economy. We have no other sources for life, except for the work of our people,” sb.by quotes Lukashenka.
