Kyiv square near Russian embassy named in honor of Boris Nemtsov

The city council of Kyiv has decided to name the square near the Russian embassy after the murdered Russian opposition figure Boris Nemtsov. The squares near the Russian Embassy in Washington and Vilnius are already named after him.

Out of 120 deputies of the Kyiv city council, 69 voted in support of this decision, “Ukrainian News” reports.

Earlier, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko posthumously awarded Nemtsov with the Order of Freedom.

In Moscow, the placement of a sign in memory of Boris Nemtsov on Malaya Ordynka, 3 (in the house where the politician lived), was agreed upon by the authorities three years after his murder.

The Russian opposition politician was killed on the night of February 28th, 2015 on the Big Moskvoretsky Bridge in Moscow.

The perpetrator of the murder, Zaur Dadaev, who served in the Chechen battalion “North”, was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Other defendants in the case were sentenced to terms ranging from 11 to 19 years in prison. The investigation believes that the murder of Nemtsov was a contract killing. For its implementation, Dadaev was promised 15 million rubles.
