Cars stolen in Lithuania most often sent to Belarus

The State Border Guard Service of Lithuania (VSAT) has reported the number of cars stolen in Europe that were stopped on the Lithuania-Belarus border.

In the first half of 2016, 43% of the cars stolen in Europe and sold in Lithuania were stopped at the border of Lithuania and Belarus.

According to the Lithuanian border guards, in this period were detained 60 automobiles that had been stolen, 43% (26 cars) were detained on the border with Belarus, 28% – on the border with Poland, 15% – on the border with Russia.

Most often stolen cars are driven by Lithuanians (one in three), as well as the citizens of Russia and Belarus. The most popular brands among the hijackers are Volkswagen, BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz.
