How many foreigners came to see European Games in Minsk?

About 35,000 foreigners visited Minsk during the 2nd European Games, Minister of Sports and Tourism Syarhei Kavalchuk said.

Officially, 213,000 tickets were sold 12,700 of them were bought by foreign tourists. Moreover, a number of public organizations invited about 7,000 foreigners to participate in competitions. During the games, about 15,000 tourists were attracted with the help of our agents. And residents of neighbouring countries, e.g. Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, are not factored in! There were also tourists from China. Therefore, the total of 35,000 is the official figure, excluding the guests who arrived in the country on their own account,” Kavalchuk told TV station Belarus 1.

In late June, Finance Minister Maksim Yermalovich said that Belarus had spent nearly Br540 mln (about $265 mln) when preparing for holding the high-profile sports event.

The 2nd European Games were held in the Belarusian capital in June 21-30, 2019. For the first time it took place in 2015 in Baku; it was started rolling by Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s close friend, Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev, who definitely wants it to run and run.

Interestingly, the president hoped earlier that holding the European Games would cost Belarus a bit more than $50 mln.
