Belarus ready for dialogue with NATO - Lukashenka

Belarus will not shift away from pursuing its peaceful foreign policy, Alyaksandr Lukashenka said at Friday’s meeting with cadets, students and academic staff of the Belarusian Military Academy.

According to the Belarusian leader, Minsk is ready for a dialogue with NATO.

“As a sovereign state, Belarus is ready for a constructive dialogue, including with the North Atlantic bloc, on the principles of parity and transparency. We do not fence ourselves off from anyone. We are ready to conduct this dialogue,” the presidential press service quotes Lukashenka.

In his opinion, Belarus has its own interests, which should be respected by its partners and those who want to cooperate with the country.

“At present time we see that NATO’s scaling up its activity in the European continent. The expansion of military blocs, the development and introduction of new technologies of armed confrontation complicate the situation near our borders. Everyone should know that Belarus will not step back from the implementation of its foreign policy of peace,” he stressed.

The Belarusian president reiterated that the country would continue to guard its interests, including in the framework of the joint defense doctrine with the Russian Federation, its strategic partner -. However, it does not mean that Belarus will refuse to interact with other countries and military and political organizations, Lukashenka added.
