Belarus ranks 150th in Democracy Index

The Economist Intelligence Unit, a British research organization, has published the latest Democracy Index. Belarus ranks 150th among 165 countries in this index.

Belarus took 150th place in the Democracy Index for 2019. In 2018, we were on the 137th place.

Next to Belarus, there are Bahrain and Iran in the ranking.

Belarus was on the 25th place in the regional ranking among the 28th Eastern European countries.

“Belarus, Azerbaijan and the four countries of Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan) remain dictatorships, most of whose leaders remain unchanged. We predict that almost nothing will improve in these countries in the coming years, as there is no reason for any political opposition to emerge in any of them,” the study authors say.

First places in the rating were taken by Norway, Iceland and Sweden.
