Belarus political parties may be forced to publish their financials


Belarusian political parties and NGOs should make their financial reporting public for the sake of transparency, Justice Minister Aleh Slizheuski said.

“In accordance with the proposal of the Ministry of Justice, we are going to formulate a draft plan on amending the law on political parties and public assocoations. The draft bill is to include the regulation that the information about the activities (including financial reporting), of public associations, political parties should be available to the general public. It will be aimed at increasing the transparency of the activities of these organizations,” state-run news agency BelTA quotes Slizheuski.

According to the minister, as many NGO are non-profit, many of them live on contributions and donations. Therefore, citizens should know how these funds are spent, he stressed.
