“For the fifth year in a row, we have seen more countries going in an authoritarian direction than those going in a democratic direction. The military coups in Myanmar, Sudan, Mali, and Burkina Faso, the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan, the deteriorating situation in Belarus, and the conflict in Ethiopia are dramatic examples of democratic development moving in the opposite direction,” said Ann Linde.

She also mentioned Belarus “how the regime cynically exploited migrants for political purposes.

“Belarus should release all political prisoners and hold democratic elections,” stressed the head of the Swedish Foreign Ministry.

Lublin Department for Combating Organized Crime and Corruption of the National Prosecutor’s Office of Poland will continue the investigation launched by the district prosecutor’s office in Warsaw. The case was initiated against an organized criminal group that facilitated the illegal crossing of the Belarusian-Polish border by migrants from the East. Officials of the Belarusian authorities are suspected of involvement in the group.
