Belsat now registered in Latvia

The  National Electronic Mass Media Council of Latvia (NEPLP), the Latvian equivalent of the Polish National Broadcasting Council, has decided to add Belsat TV, along with three other TVP: Info, World and Vilnius, to the list of audiovisual programs that can be retransmitted in Latvia.

Until now, the only NEPLP-registered channel of the Polish public broadcaster was TVP Polonia. Now the list of audiovisual programs includes: Belsat, TVP Info, TVP World and TVP Vilnius.

“The availability of Polish-language programs in Latvia is particularly important for Poles and people of Polish origin living in the country. The availability of Belsat TV is important for both the numerous migrants from Belarus and the Russian-speaking residents of Latvia, who make up a large percentage of the country’s population. The English-language TVP World channel, on the other hand, is an option for viewers interested in world news, especially from Central and Eastern Europe,” reads the TVP announcement.

The Polish public broadcaster has recently been working to expand its offerings in the Latvian market and reach as wide a group of diverse viewers as possible. Under current Latvian law, in order to sign a retransmission agreement with a cable TV operator, a TV program must first be registered with the National Electronic Media Council.
