Ukraine to receive more Starlink satellite internet systems

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has spoken with SpaceX founder Elon Musk. Zelensky wrote about the conversation in his tweet last night:

“I spoke with Elon Musk. I thanked him for his support of Ukraine in words and deeds. Next week, we will get the next batch of Starlink systems for the destroyed cities. We discussed possible space projects. But we will talk about this after the end of the war”.

Starlink is a global satellite system created by SpaceX to provide high-speed broadband satellite Internet access in places where it was unreliable or completely unattainable.

Following Russia’s attack on Ukraine, Elon Musk’s company decided to present Ukraine with access to the Starlink system. The first batch of Starlink terminals arrived in Ukraine on March 1.

On March 3, in a conversation with Ukraine’s Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov on Twitter, Elon Musk said that the SpaceX team updated the Starlink software to reduce power consumption so that the system could be used from a car cigarette lighter. They also enabled mobile roaming so that the signal is maintained while the car is in motion.
