The movie “When the flowers are not silent” produced by Belsat has won another award. The work of Andrei Kutsila got considered the best documentary by the jury of the 19th Neisse Film Festival.

Since August 15, every Saturday in Minsk, Belarusians went to a Women’s March against police brutality and as a sign of solidarity with everyone who yearns for change in the country. Women came out demanding Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s resignation, new elections, release of political prisoners and investigation of all acts of violence against civilians. Women with flowers in their hands and in white dresses became a symbol of the new Belarus, known all over the world.

This is the story of Dzmitryy Lukomski and Vyaleta Mayshuk, members of the “The Country to Live in” group. They campaigned for Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya during election campaign in Belarus. They were forced to leave Belarus due to persecution.

Today everyone says that Roman simply could not have provoke a conflict, because he always tried to resolve all matters peacefully. The boy is gone, he was killed. Apparently he was drunk. Once again the victim of the protest was slandered. 

In the documentary “Where Is My Flag?” a story is told about the struggle of the famous Belarusian opposition activist Nina Baginskaya against the government. Why does Mrs. Nina attend rallies? Why is she angry at the police and will the petite woman be able to resist the dozen officers who will block her way to the Red Church?

Alaxandr Vikhor (Sasha) did not vote in the presidential election and did not participate in the protests. 9 August 2020, he was detained and rortured to death. Henadz Shutau went to the protest only out of curiosity. He was shot in the back of the head. What these people were like and how they died, the documentary “To Go and Not Come back. Episode 2” tells about.

Being a Belarusian in Belarus is difficult and sometimes impossible. It is tiring, therefore more and more often the most convinced, the most genuine, the most talented Belarusians move abroad – to build their own Belarus there.

The film is an attempt to recreate the events of August 2020 that took place at the Yanka Kupala National Theater. Talks with the fired actors allows you to better understand what really happened there and why they chose to leave the theater.

People arrested in the first days of protests and tortured in the detention center on Akrestsina Street share their experiences and emotions. We have footage from Akrestsina Street from August 10 to 14 when our heroes were there, as well as amateur recordings of their arrest.

BT, ONT and STV are the three main national channels that have long served as a propaganda tool of the Belarusian authorities. It is difficult to say what is happening inside the TV stations, but one thing is known: supported by daily pickets, numerous ONT and BT employees began to speak out loud about the need to provide true coverage of the events in the country.

Białystok is an important place among the solidary cities. Firstly, because of its close proximity and strong economic ties with Belarus, secondly, because it has a large Belarusian national minority, and thirdly, because it has a growing Belarusian diaspora. Hence, in Białystok, numerous actions of solidarity with the persecuted Belarusians in their homeland have been taking place. In my documentary, I want to show the diversity and spectacularism of these actions.
