On January 27, Michael Carpenter, US Ambassador to the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, delivered a speech regarding the upcoming referendum in Belarus to the OSCE Permanent Council in Vienna.

On November 10, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and US President Joe Biden had a meeting in the White House; the top EU official called it ‘very productive’ on Twitter.

Also, the Belarusian authorities are forcing the US to dismiss more than 20 Belarusian employees

The worst-case scenario has not yet started to be realized: thousands of refugees from Afghanistan might be transported to the borders of the European Union via Russia. The influential US magazine Foreign Policy published a think piece about the migration crisis at the Belarus-EU borders, where thousands of citizens of Asia and Africa are trying to illegally make it to EU member countries.

On the back of Tuesday’s meeting, the leaders of the United States and European Union member countries issued a joint statement Towards A Renewed Transatlantic Partnership. Among other things, it touches upon the situation in Belarus.

They must be renewed once a year – or canceled or suspended
