Another ten-day term in punitive confinement has been imposed on political prisoner Ihar Bantser, his family reports. The man is serving his term in open-type correctional facility Nr 9 in the Belarusian city of Vitsebsk.

Ihar Bantser, a Hrodna-based musician and activist, refused food and water on March 3.

The second dozen defendants are on trial.

Since August 15, every Saturday in Minsk, Belarusians went to a Women’s March against police brutality and as a sign of solidarity with everyone who yearns for change in the country. Women came out demanding Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s resignation, new elections, release of political prisoners and investigation of all acts of violence against civilians. Women with flowers in their hands and in white dresses became a symbol of the new Belarus, known all over the world.

A well-known public activist Yan Hryb has been punished with a fine of 40 basic units, or 1,160 BYN, for participating in the March of Wisdom, which took place in Minsk on January 4.

In response to repression, protesters changed tactics

Today’s protest march ‘Dzyady against Terror’ is dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Stalinist Repressions. It has kicked off at 2 pm (local time).

Some activists have their electricity cut out and police on duty at the door.

Since early August, police have been hunting for democratic activists, and many are forced not to spend the night at home.

Nearly 3,000 people are confirmed to have contracted the novel coronavirus in Belarus, with 33 reported deaths. For the time being, there have been no quarantine measures imposed, and many Belarusians’ lives have not changed drastically yet.

On March 19, the police detained Belarusian anarchist and former political prisoner Mikalai Dzyadok at 21:25 in Chaikina street in Minsk.

The verdict has been handed down by three judges of the Volga District Military Court in the city of Penza, meduza.io reports.
