Russia is ready to make compensation for supplies of dirty oil on condition that Belarus gives the documentary evidence of the losses incurred, Russian Ambassador Dmitry Mezentsev said on January, 27.
“All the agreements have been reached. Moscow is waiting for vetted documents proving the damage done,” news agency Interfax quotes Mezentsev.
In April 2019, the Belarusian company Belneftekhim reported on a sharp deterioration in the quality of the Russian oil coming through the Druzhba pipeline. The number of organochlorine compounds in the oil was many times higher than the limit.
Both Belarusian refineries – Mazyr and Naftan – then reduced capacity utilization and suffered losses, as well as damage to the pipeline system.
Only nine months later, Belarus and Russia approved the approaches and methods of compensation for dirty oil. Details of the agreement are not reported.
