We have normalized relations with EU — Lukashenka

It is crucial for Belarus to equally develop cooperation with the East and the West, without making a choice between them, said Alyaksandr Lukashenka at a meeting on Belarus’ foreign policy.

The President stressed that the multi-vector policy remains one of the most important priorities of the Belarusian foreign policy. Meanwhile, the “Russia has been, is and will remain the strategic ally of our country”. He stressed that Russia is also a major trade and economic partner of Belarus, “in spite of all the obstacles that arise for us in this market, including man-made ones”.

“There are structural shifts in the western vector, too. We have walked a difficult path of normalizing relations with the European Union. The pace of cooperation with the US is gradually increasing,” Lukashenka was quoted by his press service.

According to Lukashenka, further normalization of relations with the European Union remains among the economic priorities.

“Our neighbor — the European Union — is going through difficult times. Today, it is facing a number of serious challenges. But I can assure you that the European Union will cope with these challenges. I have said many times that we need a strong European Union both in economic and in political terms. EU is a powerful poles of the multipolar world. That explains it,” he said.

Lukashenka noted that Belarus should not miss out on opportunities for cooperation with the EU.

“We need to literally bite into the European market, which is the most solvent and technological. And this is a task for all,” he said.
