Ukraine may push for transferring venue for Donbas talks from Minsk

The venue for the negotiations on the conflict in Donbas should be relocated, Volodymyr Yelchenko Ukraine’s permanent representative to the UN, believes.

According to the diplomat, the delegation of Belarus to the United Nations keeps voting against any Ukraine’s initiatives and proposals, which may be indicative of the country’s being biased.

“It seems to me that we need to draw serious conclusions about the position of Belarus, about the position of Kazakhstan. Everything is clear with the votes of Syria and North Korea, they are just proxies. But as for our neighbours, if you will, our former partners in the Commonwealth of Independent States, I cannot understand why they vote against,” Censor.net quotes Yelchenko.

At the beginning of the year, Kazakhstan’s Nursultan Nazarbayev claimed that it was the US leader Donald Trump who proposed to choose another place for holding the talks on the Ukrainian issue. In turn, Belarusian Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makey said that it did not matter where the meetings took place.

The situation in Ukraine’s temporarily occupied territories to be discussed at 73rd UNGA session. This decision to put the issue on the agenda was adopted by the majority (68 votes). At the same time, Armenia, Belarus, Burundi, Cuba, Iran, Kazakhstan, Myanmar, Nicaragua, Philippines, Russia, Sudan, Syria and Venezuela were against, the Permanent Ukrainian Mission to the United Nations said on Facebook.
