U.S. Embassy urges Americans to avoid mass gatherings in Minsk

The U.S. Embassy in Belarus has warned the American citizens in Minsk about possible detentions at street rallies, Interfax-Zapad wrote.

“We recommend that U.S. citizens avoid public demonstrations or protests and remember that peaceful demonstrations can turn into violent confrontations,” reads the statement of the diplomatic mission.

The embassy notes that “law enforcement agencies have detained and arrested some participants and organizers of public events for alleged violations of the Belarusian legislation”.

The diplomatic mission also reported that the actions and events were held both in Minsk and throughout Belarus.

In addition, they recommended that U.S. citizens carry an identity card, including a passport with a valid Belarusian visa.
