Crimean authorities set to ban Halloween festivities

“Hideous mask show” run against the spiritual and cultural traditions of the peoples of Russia, said the head of Crimea Sergey Aksyonov.

“The specialists – teachers, psychologists – express grounded fears about the dangerous consequences of the evil images for a child’s psyche. Therefore, I believe that schools should have no activities related to the Halloween,” said Sergey Aksyonov and urged the Crimean Ministry of Education to come up with appropriate recommendations.

The head of Crimea stressed that the “hideous mask show” of Halloween run against the spiritual and cultural traditions of the peoples of Russia. This, he added, has been repeatedly stated by the representatives of the Orthodox Church and Muslim leaders.

“On the one hand, it is certainly a commercial project, but on the other – a means of cultural colonization. Promotion of the dark tradition of Halloween is aimed at undermining the country’s traditional spiritual and moral values. I think it should be kept in mind by both those who are going to “celebrate”, and those who make money from it,” said Aksyonov.

Halloween is celebrated on October 31. It is believed that this is the only day of the year when spirits of the dead return to Earth.
