President Alyaksandr Lukashenka has held a meeting with State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Stanislau Zas to discuss security issues.
The Belarusian leader asked Mr Zas to comment on the results of the high-profile meetings, state-run news agency BelTA reports.
“We have nothing to hide here. I wish there were no speculations about the visit of U.S. President’s National Security Advisor John Bolton to Belarus and the talks that continued in Warsaw on security issues, where your colleagues were present. I asked you to reflect on all these talks and express your position on the matter. Perhaps it will become the position of our country. I need your position on what took place in Warsaw, what our neighbours (the Baltic States, Poland, and Ukraine) demand from us. Perhaps, we are doing something wrong,” Lukashenka said.
Last week, Donald Trump’s advisor met with Lukashenka in Minsk. It is the first time in the past 25 years that a US official of such top level has come to Belarus.
Moreover, on August 31, Stanislau Zas met with John Bolton, as well as Paweł Soloch and Oleksandr Danylyuk, Heads of the national security agencies of Poland and Ukraine, in Warsaw.
The head of state also raised the topic of Belarus-Russia cooperation in the field of security.
“We tackle the major security issues in the Belarus-Russia union. Lately, you have communicated a lot not only with the heads of the corresponding agencies of the Eurasian Economic Union and the Commonwealth of Independent States, but also with [Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai] Patrushev. I know that he is due in Belarus soon, so we can continue this dialogue. But what level is this dialogue with Russia at?” he wondered.
