On June 27, Warsaw hosted the Solidarity March in support of the Belarusian political prisoners. Belsat conducted a live broadcast of the event.
It was organized by the Belarusian House in Warsaw.
The march began at 12:00 from the monument to Tadeusz Kosciuszko, then went to Marshalkowska Street, where the participants formed a live chain.
Participants of the rally brought homemade posters and national symbols.
The UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Belarus, Anais Maren, spoke at a rally in Warsaw and urged the Belarusian authorities to stop persecution and political pressure on civil society.
“After the tragedy of 2010, we see the authorities returning to repressions before the elections. We called for an end to persecution and free elections, but we were not listened to,” said Anais Maren.
Protesters in the Polish capital – a few hundred people – lined up along the Marshalkowska Street from the Palace of Culture and Science (PKiN) with banners and flags.
One of the protesters burned the Russian flag. The picketer was detained by police, the investigation began. The flag was lit by the activist from Belarus, Syarhei Kavalenka.
In Belarus, repression is gaining momentum during the election campaign. To date, 8 political prisoners in the “case of Tsikhanouski” and 4 in the “case of Belgazprombank are behind bars. Potential presidential candidate Viktar Babaryka is in the KGB jail. Hundreds of people were fined for their participation in peaceful protests, dozens of them were sentenced to arrests.
