Separate law 'On Counteracting Domestic Violence' no longer feasible

This was the response the Interior Ministry gave to the organizing committee for collecting signatures to revise the concept of the bill.

According to law enforcement officials, katolik.life reports, the initiators of the legal change can offer their ideas as part of the adjustment of existing legislative acts.

The Interior Ministry explained the refusal to develop a separate law in the reply signed by the representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Aleg Karazei.

“The key points in the prevention of domestic violence are conversation, warning, the implementation of preventive measures, a preventive court order. In this regard, in order to fulfill the plan for the preparation of bills for 2018, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, together with interested government agencies, prepared a draft concept of the law “On Counteracting Domestic Violence,” says the document.

However, at the end of the letter, the Ministry of Internal Affairs indicates that after resonance in the society and the expression of the opinion of religious organizations, it was decided to abandon the preparation of a separate law.

It is not surprising, since the proposals and the initiative of the law were earlier criticized by the head of Belarus, Alyaksandr Lukashenka.

“All this is nonsense, adopted primarily from the West. You don’t have to worry, and let the people not worry — we will proceed solely based on our own interests, our Belarusian, Slavic traditions and our life experience,” he said.
