Russian MP seeking to deprive Svetlana Alexievich of Nobel Prize

Vitaly Milonov, a deputy of Russia’s State Duma, has already written a letter to the Nobel Committee asking the Swedes to strip Belarusian writer of the Prize.

According to the notorious MP, in the recent interview Alexievich ‘broke moral principles and compromised the title of Nobel laureate’.

“The essence of the Nobel Prize is that the person who has the title is a kind of ‘diplomat of peace’ by default. Now our organization Volunteers of Freedom is translating Alexievich expressions into the language of the members of the committee so that they could carefully read them. We will ask each member of the Committee to make a public assessment of them,” he said.

The statute of the Nobel Foundation does not provide for any disqualifying mechanism.

Russia’s Regnum published an interview with Svetlana Alexievich in spite of her prohibition on reporting. In her opinion, the interviewer did not behave as a journalist, but as a propagandist. The 2015 Nobel Prize winner in Literature stressed that the annexation of Crimea and the war in Donbas was on the account of Putin and Russia.
