Both Minsk and Moscow will benefit from establishing maintenance centres for military and special-purpose equipment in Belarus, Director of Russia’s Federal Service for Military and Technical Cooperation Dmitry Shugayev said on Saturday.

“The work on military and technical cooperation with Belarusian colleagues is based on certain principles. The focus is on supplies. Nevertheless, the issues of maintenance, upgrade and supply of spare parts are on the agenda. Moreover, we have a concrete program. There are pilot projects for setting up maintenance centres for air defense equipment, electronic equipment, and armored vehicles,” state-run news agency BelTA quotes Dmitry Shugayev.

According to the military official, the equipment should undergo maintenance and repair on site as it is used by the armed forces. The project is ‘promising’ and has a ‘future’, he added.

The Russian side will do its best to ensure its implementation, Shugayev stressed.
