Russia to equip Belarus army in case of ‘growing threat to Union State’ – document

The intergovernmental Belarusian-Russian agreement on joint technical support of the regional military grouping has been published on the legal protal pravo.by on Friday.

The parties signed the agreement on November 2, 2016 in Minsk. It came into force on November 14, 2017.

“The resupply of weapons, military vehicles and other material resources to the Belarusian part of the regional grouping of troops is to be organized by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. The supplies agreed are to be delivered from the Russian Armed Forces stocks in the period of an increasing military threat to the Union State and at a time of war,” Article 6 reads.

According to the document, the weapons and military equipment reserved for the Russian part of the regional grouping can be handed over to the Belarusian side ‘in the period of an immediate aggressive threat’.

The agreement was concluded for a term of 5 years. It will be tacitly renewed unless any party expresses its intention to terminate it.
