Russia threatens to ‘properly respond’ to US troops deployment to Poland

Russia may bolster the troops on its western borders in response to the deployment of additional US troops to Poland, Vladimir Dzhabarov, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council’s Committee on Foreign Affairs, states.

The deployment of NATO forces in Poland will not contribute to strengthening the country’s security, but on the contrary, will make it a target, RIA Novosti quotes the senator.

In turn, Viktor Bondarev, Chairman of the Defense and Security Committee of the Federation Council, said that Moscow would not hesitate to ‘properly respond if necessary’.

According to Russian MP Yuri Shvytkin, Poland should be aware of the fact that it will become one of the targets in the event of a retaliatory strike.

The Russian military will consider the risks and work out a response to the NATO strengthening in Poland, Leonid Slutsky, Head of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, promised.

Last week, Andrzej Duda and Donald Trump signed an agreement on US increasing its military presence in Poland by 1,000 soldiers. Poland has proposed six locations where American soldiers can be stationed. Currently there are about 4,500 US soldiers in the country.
