Russia ranks Belarus among five most popular tourist destinations in CIS

Belarus is inside the top five most promising tourist destinations among the CIS countries in 2016, according to Russian tourism website travel.ru.

The ranking has been made on the basis of the number of accomodations booked by tourists who travelled on their own in 2015.

Averagely, a hotel/apartment stay in a CIS country costs 3,000 Russian rubles per day. These countries are very attractive for Russian tourists due to low prices, well-developed infrastructure, visa-free regime and the fact that most locals speak Russian.

Spending holidays in Belarus rounds out the top five of the CIS countries by the growth in the popularity among Russians. 300,000 tourists are reported to have visited Belarus in 2015, more than half of them were Russians. They go to Minsk, Vitsebsk, Homiel, Hrodna, Brest,  ski resort Lahoysk and Lake Narach.

Azerbaijan, which took more than 2 million tourists in 2015, has topped the list of travel.ru. It is followed by Armenia, Kyrgyzstan (1.2 million tourists per year), and Kazakhstan – 500,000 tourists a year.
