Putin’s rating suddenly jumps to 72% after recount

The All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VTsIOM) has stated that it had changed the methodology of the poll about the confidence of Russians in politicians. The new results show that 72.3% of citizens trust Putin, Kommersant writes.

Currently, the respondents in the questionnaire are asked to answer a closed question: “Do you or don’t you trust…?” Next comes the list of five Russian politicians: Vladimir Putin, Dmitry Medvedev, Vladimir Zhirinovsky, Gennady Zyuganov and Sergey Mironov. According to the study, 72.3% of respondents said they personally trust Putin. This figure even exceeds the level of approval of his activities as an institution of state power (64.5%).

The spokesman for the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, said that the president can have only one rating — and it is how people evaluate his work. “If you look at the numbers, it turns out that you can approve, but not trust. Or trust, but not approve,” Peskov said.

Previously respondents for 13 years were asked to answer the open-ended question “Who of the politicians do you trust?”. According to this methodology, the trust rating of Vladimir Putin last week fell to a historic minimum of 30.5%.

On May 28, the head of VTsIOM, Valery Fedorov, explained the fall in the trust rating of Vladimir Putin by saying that peoples’ hopes for improving their well-being do not come true. Then Peskov asked sociologists to explain how confidence can go down, but the electoral rating could grow. To this Fedorov replied that sociologists used various methods.
