Putin thanks Trump for CIA tip-off about planned bomb attack in St. Petersburg

On December 15, Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) reported the arrest of a terrorist group that was allegedly plotting a number of explosions in St. Petersburg, including in Kazan Cathedral.

A bit later, it became known that it was the US Central Intelligence Agency that handed over information about preparations for terrorist attacks to Russia.

On December 17, Vladimir Putin thanked his US counterpart Donald Trump for the CIA tip-off over the phone.

“Vladimir Putin thanked Donald Trump for the data provided by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), which helped detain the terrorists who were preparing explosions in St. Petersburg’s Kazan Cathedral and in other crowded places in the city. The information received from the CIA turned out to be sufficient for detecting and arresting the criminals,” the Kremlin press service says.

According to the FSB, the arrestees are adherents of the so-called Islamic State.
