The All-Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) has published the results of a recent survey: one of the questions set by sociologists was ‘Which Russian politician could be entrusted with managing state affairs?’
According to VCIOM, only 31.7% of respondents put confidence in president Vladimir Putin, which is indicative of hitting the lowest reading since January 2006. At the same time, Putin’s activity and work have met with the approval of 65.8% of interviewees.
A year ago, in May 2018, Putin’s rating equalled to 47.4%. The decline in his popularity started in June, 2018 after the Kremlin announced raising the retirement age in the country.
However, Russians trust Putin more than any other politician. The top five also included Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu (14.8%), Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov (13%), LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky (8.8%), Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev (7.3%).
