Russian police have detained about 339 people in five Russian cities in connection with the August 10 protests, “OVD-Info” reports.
On August 10, a number of Russian cities held rallies for fair elections and against political repression. The reason for the protests was the scandal with the admission of opposition candidates to the Moscow City Duma elections, as well as administrative and criminal prosecution of the previous protest rallies’ participants.
In Moscow, about 50 thousand people gathered for an authorized rally. After the event, the law enforcement officers detained more than 240 people. There were also detentions in other cities, where the authorities did not allow the protests.
Before the protest, masked law enforcement officers broke into the center of signature collection of unregistered candidate for Moscow City Duma Lubov Sobol and into the ‘Navalny LIVE’ studio. Ms Sobol was detained, with an administrative protocol drawn up in her name and released only in the evening. The ‘Navalny LIVE’ had all of its equipment seized.
