“Although from time to time it seems that everything has already been decided, I do not think so,” said Nausėda, noting that over the 20 years of the Union State of Russia and Belarus, the union of the two countries never really came to exist.

The politician stressed that the EU countries would support Minsk in the fight for independence, as the independence of Belarus is in the interests of Europe. Gitanas Nausėda noted that Lithuania has a long border with Belarus.

“I would like this border to remain the border with Belarus, not Russia,” said the head of Lithuania.

Nausėda said he would try to establish relations with Minsk, but would not forget about his principled position on the Belarusian nuclear power plant.
