On March 12-16, chairpersons of district and city executive committees are attending a territorial defense course at the Belarusian Military Academy.
“During the training, students will get an understanding of several instruments and document on territorial defense as well as order of establishing district headquarters of territorial defense and military units of territorial troops. The main attention will be paid to the issue of preparing and conducting the territorial defense in an area.” the Defense Ministry of Belarus reports.
At the end of the course, the participants will have to pass tests. Notably, such courses are carried out on a scheduled basis. Their goal is to keep current public officials’ readiness to ensure military security of the state, ‘taking into account present-day risks and threats’.
As reported earlier, on behalf of president Alyaksandr Lukashenka, Secretary for the Security Council Stanislau Zas ordered Defense Minister Andrey Raukou to conduct an audit of the Armed Forces of Belarus. The system of troop mobilization is be tested, including the readiness to form a separate mechanized brigade and its ability to perform tasks independently for the intended purpose. Up to 2,000 people are expected to be summoned from the reserve.
