Poland ready to supply oil to Belarus

The Commissioner for Strategic Energy Infrastructure of the Polish government Piotr Naimski said that Poland was interested in oil transit to Belarus through its territory, reports the Polish Puls Biznesu.

“We are interested, as far as we are able, in helping Belarus in oil transit, of course, if such a need arises,” said Piotr Naimski in Washington during a meeting with U.S. Energy Secretary Dan Bruyette.

The representative of the Polish government also reminded that during his recent visit to Belarus, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo offered Belarus to supply American oil.

According to Piotr Naimski, Warsaw is waiting for the appropriate steps from the official Minsk.

“If the Belarusians buy oil and it has to be delivered to their refineries, we are ready to provide our transit infrastructure — first in the test mode, and later for deliveries in industrial volumes,” said the Polish government commissioner.

It should be noted that on February 27, the website of the Polish company PERN reported on plans to transport crude oil eastwards. It was previously reported that reverse deliveries from Poland to Belarus were also technically possible.

“PERN decided that the eastern part of the Druzhba pipeline should be able to pump crude oil from Polatsk to Adamowo. Now the transportation is only in the opposite direction. The goal is to increase the flexibility of the company’s logistics network and improve Poland’s energy security. The company has already started looking for a contractor for this project,” the report says.

On January 1, 2020, Russia stopped supplying oil to the refineries of Belarus due to the fact that Moscow and Minsk have not signed new contracts. Minsk is now looking for alternative oil suppliers.
