Four residents of Brest have organized rallies “Brest residents against lead” in the Park of Soldiers-Internationalists. Activists want to hold mass events against the construction of the battery plant on January 26 and 27.
The activists sent four applications to the city executive committee to hold four events, “Brestskaya Gazeta” reports.
“We still have not given up hope that the authorities will come to their senses and allow us to hold a rally. Secondly, the more we submit applications, the more the authorities have to invent some ridiculous events to justify the refusal. Thirdly, we are preparing to appeal these bans as a violation of our right to peaceful assembly both at the national level in the courts and internationally at the UN Human Rights Committee, ”Raman Kislyak explained to the “BG” correspondent.
The purpose of the mass event is to protest against the construction of the “Ipower” lead-acid battery plant, to inform citizens about the harmfulness of production for human health and the environment, and to inform about the course of the public campaign against the battery factory.
