One dead, three injured: Student opens fire in Russian college


On Thursday morning, one person was killed and three injured when a student opened fire at a college in the Russian city of Blagoveshchensk (Far Eastern Amur region).

“Bodies of two young men, including the shooter, were found at the site of the incident. Also, according to early reports, three were injured,” state-run news agency TASS reports with reference to the Interior Ministry.

Soon after the start of the classes at the college, the 19-year-old student whbegan to fire with a hunting gun. When the police arrived, he shot at them. The policemen returned fire and the perpetrator was injured.

The officers managed to block the attacker in one of the rooms, while evacuating students and lecturers outside. According to a number of Russian news portals, later the young man committed suicide.

Three teenagers injured in a college shooting in the Russian city of Blagoveshchensk have undergone surgeries; one of them is in critical condition and remains in the intensive care unit, the other one is in serious condition.

There are about 1,500 students at the college. The city authorities have convened an extraordinary conference on security at Blagoveshchensk educational institutions. Police sees the shooter’s conflict with fellow students as a possible reason for the incident.
