Number of COVID-19 cases in Vitsebsk on decline Lukashenka claims

According to Alyaksandr Lukashenka, 3-4 days ago 280 new cases of pneumonia were registered in Vitsebsk daily, but later the situation improved.

He said this on April 13, listening to a report from Head of Presidential Administration Ihar Siarheyenka, Chair of the Council of the Republic Natallia Kachanava and Health Minister Uladzimir Karanik. The words of the head of state were broadcast in the evening news on STV.

“Earlier, doctors and the Ministry of Health told me that, from experience, the acute respiratory infection has a of pneumonias. That is, number of pneumonia cases during the decline of the respiratory infections has always increased. I can see it on the graph, including this year. Pneumonia cases have been increasing, but, which is indicative, in the last three days: I get reports from the poor Sharstniou in Vitsebsk every morning. He probably does not sleep at night. He had pneumonia cases on the rise 3-4 days ago — 280 every day. Now it’s 2.5 times lower. And for the third day now, it’s been on the decline. And this is our northern Vitsebsk region. It’s the same in Minsk,” he said.

Previously, the Ministry of Health acknowledged the growth of pneumonia and acute respiratory disease cases in Vitsebsk in late March and early April, but stressed that the total number of pneumonia cases in Vitsebsk and Belarus had decreased in general.

Thus, it follows from Lukashenka’s words that last week the growth of pneumonia in Vitsebsk could have been up to 280 new cases per day (1 new pneumonia for every 1,350 people of the population). For comparison, last week in Moscow, the growth was up to 1,300 new cases per day (1 new pneumonia per 9,750 people).
