Minsk: Rally in memory of Stalin's victims near KGB

On Sunday evening activists and politicians honoured the memory of the Belarusian cultural figures executed by Stalinists in 1937.

The rally was held near the main entrance to the KGB headquarters in Minsk. It was initiated by Mikalai Statkevich, one of the leaders of the Belarusian National Congress and a former political prisoner.

The participants lit candles in memory of the victims of the Stalinist purges.

October 29 is a black day of the Belarusian history. On this day in 1937 Stalin’s secret police, the NKVD, shot more than 100 cultural figures, mainly writers and poets.
