Minsk: Ceiling collapses in Arena City mall, some injured


The scene has been cordoned off by security forces. Nasha Niva journalists have witnessed the incident. According to them, at least one person has been injured.

The collapse hit the area of 150 square metres in the Arena City mall, Volha Melchanka, a representative of the Emergencies Ministry, says.

“By the moment, there has been information about one injured person. A 24-year-old girl, who works at the flower shop, has been hospitalized. The preliminary diagnosis is traumatic brain injury, shock, intraabdominal injury,” the statement reads.

The ceiling fell down on the florist’s spot, where the shop assistants were in at that moment. They were taken from under the rubble with no delay.

“Security guards have done their job well. They immediately evacuate all the visitors,” eyewitnesses stress.

Earlier, Arena City belonged to notorious Belarusian oligarch Yury Chyzh. In 2016, the mall came into possession of a group of banks through leaseback transactions.
