During the meeting, Lukashenka noted constructive cooperation between Belarus and the United States in various areas, particularly in countering terrorism. Pompeo said that the United States highly appreciates the role of Belarus in this matter. “I hope that we can further develop our relations in this direction,” he added.

The United States will also continue to pay attention to human rights issues, said the Secretary of State.

“We have concerns about this issue, and we will continue to promote reforms so that people’s rights are protected,” he said. “We are confident that together we will be able to succeed in our relationship”.

“I hope that we can further develop our relations in the direction of investment so that Belarus has sovereignty and independence. I understand this is what you want,” said Pompeo.

He noted that he has studied several reports and is aware of the long history of Belarusian-Russian relations.

“But we are not talking about the choice between us and them. We are talking about diplomatic relations,” said the Secretary of State.
