Belarus will make every effort to support the work of the Trilateral Contact Group on Ukraine, president Alyaksandr Lukashenka said at the meeting with the OSCE special representative Martin Sajdik.
“If there is something else we can do for the sake of peace in Ukraine, we are ready to do it. I have repeatedly expressed the readiness,” he said.
According to the Belarusian leader, he has been continuously monitoring the negotiation process on Ukraine in Minsk.
“You are aware of my attitude, the attitude of Belarusians to this conflict. We analyze everything that you are saying, all your statements (and I hear all these statements). Our points of view are almost the same,” the president said. “Just like you and me, Belarusian people want peace in Ukraine. This is our republic, we used to live in one country for a long time. Fates of many Belarusian and Ukrainian families and people are intertwined. Ukraine is not an alien country for us,” state-run news agency BelTA quotes him as saying.
In turn, Martin Sajdik thanked Belarus for its long-term support and assistance. However, he regretted the fact that the sides and negotiators had not managed to resolve the conflict yet.
Alyaksandr Lukashenka, who is hell-bent on the meadiator’s laurels, never grows tired of offering Belarus’ assistance in deconflicting the situation in Donbas.
In October 2018, when making a speech at the Munich Security Conference Core Group meeting in Minsk, Lukashenka stressed that a mutually acceptable solution on bringing peacekeepers into Donbas should be found as soon as possible.
