Lithuania further restricts purchase of electricity from BelNPP

The President of Lithuania has signed amendments to laws that provide for additional measures to prevent electricity from the Belarusian nuclear power plant from entering Lithuania, the office of Gitanas Nausėda reports.

According to the changes, companies will not receive permission to import electricity from the BelNPP from January 2020.

If the government commission checking transactions of strategic enterprises finds out that the importer is a threat to the security of the country, its license will be suspended.

The President of Lithuania has also promised to accelerate synchronization of the Lithuanian and Western European power grids. The issue of refusing to buy electricity from BelNPP is going to be raised at meetings with leaders of the European Union and partner countries.
