Krasnapolle resident faces death penalty for killing brother


An investigation into the murder of a local resident has been completed in the town of Krasnapolle of Mahiliou region. The defendant is the 37-year-old brother of the killed man, the press service of the Investigative Committee reports.

According to the investigation, the accused lived in Krasnapolle with his mother and 38-year-old brother. In the night of November 30, 2019, there was a conflict between the brothers. During the fight, the accused, intoxicated, pulled out a hunting gun and shot the victim, said the Investigative Committee. The 38-year-old man died from the injuries.

Investigators have disregarded the accused’s version that the shot had allegedly been made by accident in self-defense.

This is not the first murder committed by a resident of Krasnapolle, reported the IC. In 2017, he was released from prison, where he was serving a sentence for murder and robbery. Now the 37-year-old man has been charged under Part 2 of Article 139 (murder committed by a person who’s previously committed murder) of the Criminal Code of Belarus. The maximum penalty under this article is death penalty.

The criminal case was referred to the prosecutor for further referral to court.

In addition, during the investigation of this criminal case, the law enforcement officers managed to identify “another person involved in the two crimes against sexual freedom and sexual inviolability of minors committed in Krasnapolle in 2016 and 2017”.
